Abstract Although globalization processes have brought the world closer through exchange of knowledge, ideas and practices, advances in knowledge dissemination not been mirrored by expansion sites modes production. This article probes this disjuncture asks how deglobalization might chart different pathways delving into intellectual history making International Relations (IR). Focusing its gaze on structuring principles creation knowing rather than specific issues problematiques IR, it analyses historical impact western Enlightenment thinking centuries-long imperialism, which continues to limit agency many states re-making their life-worlds. The describes as a longue durée response that offers possibilities for countering or challenging discursive hegemony ‘West’. It discusses ‘nationalist’ China—a rising power more dispersed, global academic endeavour seeking decolonize IR's production better account diverse ground realities worlds.
